Working in Partnership

We are a vibrant and diverse alliance of schools in North Sefton. If you choose to train with us you will have access to some outstanding schools, schools with Sixth Forms and schools without, Faith and non-Faith schools, co-educational and single sex schools. By choosing the Coastal ITT Alliance you will ensure yourself the widest breadth of experience possible.

North Sefton Teaching School Alliance will be working with Edge Hill University, one of the country’s leading providers of teacher training and the University of the Year (Times Higher Education Awards). Edge Hill has built an outstanding reputation over a 128 year history of providing high quality teacher education and we are thrilled to be working with the North West’s premier ITT provider in what is their only School Direct partnership in this part of Merseyside.

The Lead School

Meols Cop High School (Southport) leads our Teaching School Alliance. It has a current outstanding Ofsted judgment and is one of the highest performing schools in Sefton.

Partner Schools

Our alliance includes four other local high schools.

The partner schools are:

Range High School (Formby)

Birkdale High School, Southport

Christ the King Catholic High School, Southport

Greenbank High School, Southport

Each trainee will have a placement at two of the alliance schools.  On both placements trainees will receive the same high level of support.  Trainees will each have subject mentors, who are outstanding teachers.  Each partner school will also have a School Lead who oversees the training within their school, and the overall programme leader will be based at Range High School.

Support for Trainees

All trainees will receive support and advice from a wide variety of different people during their training;

  • The Programme Leader based at Range High School and the School Direct Lead at Edge Hill University
  • The Edge Hill University Partnership Trainer (subject mentor)
  • The School Lead at your placement schools
  • An Edge Hill University tutor for the academic modules usually the PGCE Course Leader or module leader.
  • A PQO (Partnership Quality Officer)

The partnership will offer pre and post course support to all applicants designed to help them successfully apply for the right  course and move on to a successful career following their training.

Students attend regular in-house Initial Teacher Training Sessions for the duration of the course.
